Lots of information, May 20, 1998
Reviewer: A reader from USA

This is a very good book. It talks about almost all aspects of the art. The only drawback is that English is definitely not the authors native language (which doesn't bother most people). Also, there is no instruction on the Wai Kru prefight dance, but that's probably because each school has it's own, and he probably wasn't authorized to teach it. Anyway, this is a really good book for anyone interested in Muay Thai, and it comes with a training log for you to use too. :)

Great Book for Getting Started with Muay Thai, March 13, 2000
Reviewer: David Hellmuth from St. Louis, Missouri

For the price of the book, this is a great value if your interested in Muay Thai. Lots of large pictures to help explain the basic moves and foot positions. The only problem I had with the book was that each move was not explained as much as they could of been. But then the book is not made to teach you muay Thai but just to understand the movements better until you start lessons, if you choose to do so. I did and plan on starting lessons very soon. Great book!

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Kickboxing

Customer Comments

Excellent presentation of Kickboxing, January 31, 2001
Reviewer: FRANKLIN CASTILLO from MISS STATE, MS United States

This is a very clear and well done book on Kickboxing. It is great for someone curious about the sport. This book is written to pick up and get started immediately, and is great for beginners. If you are interested in learning about the sport, or learning the attacks, defenses, and training of kickboxing, I highly recommend this book to get started. Lots of pictures as well as step by step descriptions of each technique make it easy to learn quickly. Get this book, you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely Fantastic!, April 6, 2000
Reviewer: Janine Helligar from Atlanta, Georgia

If you are interested in kickboxing for sport, fitness (including cardio kickboxing) or self-defense, this is an excellent starting point and final destination (unless you wish to take it to a competitive level). This wonderful book provides the aspiring kickboxer with all the tools necessary to get fit and/or compete: a little history, factoids about the sport, training tips, and a through description of the required strikes, kicks, and blocking techniques. But what really makes this book shine, shine, shine is that it provides you with actually step-by-step beginner, intermediate, and advanced workouts and conditioning drills that you can follow to get in fighting shape. No guess work necessary on your part! And if you have the guts and desire to take on the ultimate challenge, there is even an additional 8-week program to get you there. Then if that isn't enough, at the end of the book, it provides self-defense techniques with pictures. I highly recommend this gem of a book to anyone who has an interest in the sport or just getting in fighting shape. You won't be sorry!

Kickboxing Basics

Customer Comments

Kickboxing made simple!, December 21, 2000
Reviewer: piggirl from Holtsville, NY

This book is great! It shows you the general basics of the steps. It shows you motion by motion how you should move your feet and arms. Also there is a section about exercise and training. It explains everything really well. I think I was looking for a more "Tae-Bo" kind of work out. You have to put your own steps to music with this book, which is fine. It is fun and if you are interested in Kick Boxing I would say go for it!

This is where to learn the basics., December 11, 2000
Reviewer: J Conley from Atlanta, GA USA

This is a great book for learning the fundamentals of kickboxing. Written in a clean and concise style, it covers the work-a-day world of becoming a kickboxer. Leaving out the 'grandmaster' stuff usually found in martial arts books, Kickboxing Basics focuses on the meat: how to get in shape; how to throw a punch/kick; how to move around the ring; and how to win a fight. As a 'basics' book, it doesn't go into a lot of detail, but does give firm pointers to the paths the reader should explore. A great read.

Peter 'Sugarfoot' Cunningham's Civilized...

Customer Comments

Excellent book on the Fundamentals of Kickboxing, August 2, 2000
Reviewer: Kenneth L. Herfurth from Abilene, Texas United States

This book is creatively crafted by Peter Cunningham and Robert Mickey. It is a great primer on the basics of kickboxing and chapters include information on conditioning, getting started, striking techniques and much more. The book isn't just full of photos teaching the reader how to make each movement. No, this book is much more. There contains much information on the ends and outs of this sport.

This book reads at a ninth grade level which widens the appeal to teenagers who have had some karate training and may be looking to expand their knowledge into the sport aspects of kickboxing. Adults in the martial arts (like myself) should enjoy this book as well. Cunningham has done a great job and deserves a lot of credit for this publication.

A must for kickboxers, July 28, 2000
Reviewer: kendallrama from Florence, MS.

Like most martial artist, I did some soul searching before I found my art. I bought a lot of books, on many styles. I ordered this one, and it made my mind up for me. This is a THE book for anyone interested in kickboxing.

Kickboxing

Customer Comments

very good book on the subject, June 22, 2000
Reviewer: eyal moskona nt ,ome from tel-aviv,israel

a very good photo book that showing and explaining the kickboxing of Jeet Kune Do, plus including many boxing and kickboxing drills (including how to train with the partner with this particular part of the book is superb). The 5 ways of attack (in the art of Jeet Kune Do) are explained in the application of J.K.D.-kickboxing which is the topic of this book. A very technical book with explanations, although the footwork (as my previous reviewers mentioned) should have to be discussed more in details. In short it is recommended.

Excellent for those who want to supplement their training, October 26, 1998
Reviewer: The Warrior from Canada

This book is for those who want to expand their knowledge in the martial arts world--particularly in kickboxing. In my opinion JKD is the ultimate expression of one's self beyond classical styles. I feel that this book and it contents can help a person hone his/her own skills and can be an invaluable resource to anyone. Although there is very little mention about footwork, the rest of contents makes up for this loss. :)
