Are the classes strictly for beginners?
Our beginner’s programme is set-up strictly for beginners and are taught using our unique beginner's syllabus, designed to build self-confidence, technique, fitness and co-ordination of students before the progression to more specialise areas of the art.

What type of clothing do I need to take part in your beginner's programme?
Anything that is comfortable, we recommend tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt.

In what way is the kickboxing beginner’s course different from the kickboxing beginner’s sessions?
The main difference is that the beginner’s kickboxing course which is held at (Kelmscott Leisure Centre and
The Origin) is a set 6-week programme, the techniques remains the same each and every 6 week course rotation.

The beginner’s kickboxing sessions which is held at (Fitness First) are not set this means that every week you will be learning something new and different.

I have been looking for a place that does a kickboxing course near me for ages and I would love to do it. But I am only 15 years old and on the site I noticed it described this, as a 'programme for adults' will my age be a problem?
The minimum age for participation on the  beginners kickboxing course is 14 years with parental consent.
The minimum age for participation on any of our other sessions is 16 years.

Also will I have to book to get on the course or can I just turn up?
You can turn up on the day and book onto the beginners kickboxing course however, it is advisable to book in advance because there are only a set number of places available on each course.

Are owning gloves and leg protection essential for the beginner's class?
No equipment is required for the beginner's sessions until your induction is completed, after that information will be given as to necessary equipment.

Equipment for intermediate and advance sessions
Equipment required for Intermediate and Advance levels are:
head guard, shin and instep protectors, boxing gloves, gum shield, hand bandages, groin guard for males, chest protectors for females. Thai boxing shorts, Vipers t-shirt, these items can be purchased from your coach.

Membership is £35 per annum this includes your insurance.

Membership is not payable if you are booking the beginners kickboxing course at Kelmscott Leisure Centre (Greenwich Leisure Ltd) because they have their own insurance cover. However, if you wish to take your grading £35 membership fee is payable to the governing body.

How often does grading take place?
Every 3 months or when the coach feels that the student is ready.

Can I participate in your sessions just for keep-fit reasons?
Yes!

I am not very fit at the moment so would this be too hard for me?
There are no special fitness requirements to take part in any of our programmes.
Each programme is set up to improve your fitness level along with a greater awareness and self-confidence, this is the whole aim of our programmes.

Do you hold continuous classes to progress over years to a high standard?
Our programmes are developed so that you progress at a steady pace, for example we recommend that you start your training with our beginner’s Thai/Kickboxing programme and then move on to the Intermediate section and finally the Advance Thai/kickboxing programme as you see continuous progress.

Do you hold mixed classes, or are there different teaching times for men and women?
All our classes are mixed, but if we receive sufficient requests say 10 people for single sex groups we can offer these classes.

Touch sparring (what is it?)

Keywords:

Fitness

Touch sparring is a unique and important part of our beginner's programme invented by Lincoln Boney.
This simple yet effective section of our programme will help the student to improve at a much faster rate than traditional training methods in a safe and fun environment.

It is designed to help the student gain the maxim from their training.
For example, it will help to improve balance, co-ordination, fitness and develop timing enhancing techniques. Helping the student overtime to gain self-confidence and success at a much faster rate.

How to perform touch sparring:

The object of touch sparring is to make contact with the target area using the palm of your hand i.e. open hand when using your hands and the instep of your feet if kicking.

  • Target areas using your hands:
Side of the arm and body, legs inside and outside (no head shots are allowed).

  • Target areas using your kicks:
Inside and outside the legs and body using only the turning kick (no head shots are allowed).

Anyone can participate regardless of age, fitness level and against any opponent.
No equipment is necessary and it's Fun!

Student Testimonial
"All round workout, mental and physical, excellent coaching, one-on-one and as a team.
I have learnt a lot about the art of fighting and about myself, handling people and situations.
I feel confident that I could handle myself on the street, except if they have a “piece!”
If this goes on the web everyone, come along it's well worth it! Only one complaint - there aren’t enough classes"
